Hello again from Lightside,
Well, it turns out that April is the one year anniversary of the Lightside newsletter ... yes, that newsletter, the one which was originally slated to go out monthly. Overreaching is the term that comes to mind as this is only the fifth actual installment!
There have been many good things to report since the last issue: we've handled extraordinary pieces from CRG Gallery and Ori Gersht, worked with Roebling Hall to mount Rebecca Horne's The Corner of Your Eye exhibition and created a limited edition portfolio for Boogie's Paris gallery (all viewable in the project archive @ lightsidePS.com).
So, true to form (or in other words, a bit late as usual) in this issue you'll find two recently closed exhibitions worth a second look.
Click on the images below to see extended portfolios from the artists and views of the installations ... and as always, should you feel flayed by spam, please note that you may easily unsubscribe below at anytime.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Kane Lightside Photographic Services

Cao Fei (aka China Tracy)
RMB City: Lombard Freid Projects, New York, NY February 29 - April 5, 2008
Cao Fei's current project, RMB City, has its foundation in the virtual 3D online world of Second Life. There, under the guise of her avitar, China Tracy, Cao Fei presents the destination, RMB City, as a "condensed incarnation of contemporary Chinese cities" ... a conceptual "parallel universe" for users to participate in everything from capital investments to live action artist interviews. Lombard Freid essentially transformed their gallery space into a conceptualized "leasing office" for the RMB City project.
Lightside mounted and framed (7) 48 x 63 digital c-prints for the RMB City exhibition. The pieces are top mounted to 3mm Dibond and presented in spline joined maple frames with a matt white lacquer finish, 3/16" OP-3 UV protective acrylic glazing, archival coroplast backing and cleated countersunk strainers.
Lightside has also handled Cao Fei's Cos Players and the My Future is Not a Dream series of digital c-prints presented with braced face mounting to acrylic and provided life sized photo-realistic installation materials for her March 2006 exhibition, Hip Hop, at Lombard Freid Projects.

Lawrence Beck
Sonnabend Gallery, New York, NY March 8 - April 12, 2008
Larry Beck's new color Water Lilly series represents a twist on his previous treatments of similar subject matter. While no less conceptual in approach, this body of images blends his favored water-based botanicals with reflections of the sky and clouds to form subtle patterns of shadow and light deeply reminiscent of impressionistic painting.
Lightside provided the entire range of services to produce this series: proprietary c-41 processing method, hi-resolution drum scanning, and 60 x 80 archival pigment print output mounted on 3mm Dibond. The framing presentation is 7/8" x 2 3/4" spline joined maple with a matt white lacquer finish and 3/16" OP-3 UV protective acrylic glazing. | |
